What to do in the Algarve in Winter

25-08-2022

The Algarve is known for its beaches and the scorching sun that hovers there, what few people know is that there are also places to explore even in the cold of winter, in this summer paradise. This region is rich in gastronomy and culture, going unnoticed by the richness of its beaches. It is worth noting that the Algarve is open for tourism all year round, receiving more visitors in the summer, and the winter is quieter for walking around and exploring.

If you have read any of the blogs posted here, you may have already come across the location I will mention: Sagres. Sagres is one of the places with the best waves during the winter, which are bigger than in the summer, making it perfect for surfing and stand-up paddleboarding. If you are looking for high waves around the Algarve in winter, Sagres is the ideal place.

Why not take a jeep tour of the Algarve? This is one of the activities you can do, it passes through small fishing villages, woods and forests, starting from Albufeira. As it passes by the places, there will be stops along the way so you can observe every corner of the Algarve and take the opportunity to taste the gastronomy of this place. The tour is accompanied by a guide who will give you all the information you need. If you want a little more excitement, you can choose to go to a karting track. In the winter, as it is not very busy it is the best time of the year to have fun riding go-karts, you don't need a license to get into one, but don't be fooled, these are fast.

There are plenty of tourist buses scattered around the Algarve, with them it is easier for tourists to visit the city, allowing the possibility to visit several sights at once. There is the possibility of buying a 24H ticket that allows you to get on and off wherever you want, whenever you want, during that period, as long as you are at the bus stops. The route is concentrated in the historic center of Albufeira, passing by the Campanário (monument of the city) and going to the Praia dos Pescadores (Fishermen's Beach). It also passes by Praia dos Salgados, Monte da Galé, Castelo Evaristo, Avenida da Liberdade, among others.

You can also try your luck in casinos, which are located all over the Algarve, for example the casinos in Vilamoura and Monte Gordo are close to the main hotels and attractions in the region. If you are not a fan of gambling, you can have a drink at the reasonably priced bar while enjoying the fun atmosphere around you, and you can also choose to have dinner there and/or see a show in the evening.

You can take advantage and ride a Tuk-Tuk around the city to explore new areas. This becomes a slow but pleasant trip through the Algarve, riding on roads that were once busy, but off season become quiet and easy to navigate. Tuk-tuks are available throughout the Algarve and can be hired in advance for whatever occasion you are looking for.

Another benefit of visiting the Algarve in winter is having the values lower than in high season, so take the opportunity to visit the Algarve and all its attractions with fewer crowds and at more reasonable prices, we look forward to seeing you.
