What is the origin of Algarve's name?

Did you know that the name Algarve has an Arabic origin and is an adaptation of the word "Al-Gharb" which means "The West". This is due to the fact that, during the Muslim occupation of the region, the Algarve was considered the westernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula and Continental Europe, in relation to the center of the Islamic world at the time, which was the Middle East.

In addition, the Algarve region was a strategic area for the Moors, due to its privileged location in the south of Portugal, with access to the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, and for being rich in natural resources such as fishing and agriculture.

Over time, the name Algarve spread and became the official name of the region, which is known for its beautiful beaches, pleasant climate and rich cultural history.
